Frederick "Fred" Hampton
b- Oct 15, 1880, Ockham, Surrey, England
d- Apr 18, 1980, Skeenaview Lodge, Terrace, age 99
buried in Terrace Municipal Cemetery
son of James Hampton, West Horsley, Surrey,
England
and Ann Berryman, England.
Came to Kitimat, Feb 25, 1908.
Then hiked from Kitimat to Eby's Landing.
2 month's later he met the
Frank Family
arrive.
There has been a lot written about the Frank Family,
and I am not disrespecting them by not including
their history here.
They certainly deserve all the articles and credit due them.
Anyway back to Fred Hampton
1911 Census he is at Kitsumgallum,
shown as a lodger of George Dover,
Rancher, part of a Road Gang, age 30.
Immigrating from england in 1907.
Enlisted in WWI, in Prince Rupert, Reg
#703090
shown as a carpenter, single.
Worked in the winter of 1913 on the first
Bridge
to cross the Skeena River,
from Terrace to Ferry Island.
enlisted in 1916 in Prince Rupert,
and returned in 1919
He lived in Dutch Valley when he returned
from war.
He also lived on the bench,
2 miles north of the School Board Offices. (Deep Creek)
He built a barn ca 1912 in the Deep Creek
area,
which has been relocated to the Terrace Regional Museum.
After serving in the War, he was not
impressed
with the French Canadian "Zombies" who were involved
in the mutiny here during WWII.
In 1977 he was the oldest living resident
Pioneer in Terrace
