Digby Island
Home of a Wireless Radio Telegraph Station
British Marconi systems.
Mar 23, 1910- C. P. Edwards Superintendent of Wireless Telegraph Stations,
returned to Victoria, with news the station would be operating
within a fortnight.
May 22, 1910 Mr. E. J. Haughton
returned to Victoria BC
from a tour of the wireless stations in the north.
He was Superintendent of the Radio Telegraph Service,
of the Dominion Government.
He Superintended the placing of the cable,
from Digby Island to the Kaien Island, and Prince Rupert.
This connected the new port of Prince Rupert
to the lower Mainland.

1911 Operators:
Reginald Harris
and James Harker
By 1914 Langara Island and Dead Tree Point had a
wireless station as well.
Dead Tree Point station was being considered to be moved
to Cape St. James, southern end of Queen Charlotte Islands.
Another station was located at Ikeda Head,
south end of Queen Charlotte Islands
Then Triangle Island, Estevan Point (Hesquiot), Pachena Point (Bamfield),
Gonzales Hill at Victoria, Cape Lazo (Comox) and Point Grey (Vancouver).
The first stations were installed in Sept 1907
Of course Digby Island is the home of the Prince Rupert
Airport. YPR
In service in 1961.
Since 1970 Digby has been accessed by the Prince Rupert Ferry

Duplicates online?
Note- You will see some of the same pictures,
on other Archive / Museum sites online.

Reason- Most of these photos were commercial postcards,
and multi copies were made and sold.
All have different writing on the back is the difference.
I don't include all the backs to save bandwidth, but have them in my data.
