Originally this was First Nation "Kaska" aka
"Casca" Reserve area
They are related to the Tahltan.
Later the name was changed to "Cassiar"
Located at the South end
of Dease Lake
In 1837 a Hudson's Bay Co.

It took 2 1/2 days by horseback to ride
to Telegraph Creek from this location
The Lake had been named in 1834
for Chief Factor Peter Warren Dease
