The Governor General of Canada
Charles "Vincent" Massey
visited Kitimat and Kemano
Apr 20, and 21, 1954

He arrived first at the Kitimat dock, from Vancouver ,
then went on to Kemano.
He travelled on the V Class, Canadian Navy Destroyer, HMCS Sioux.
travelling with him, his son Captain Lionel Massey,
and Lionel's wife, Lilias Massey, nee Ahearn, from Ottawa,
who served as Chatelaine of Rideau Hall.
They came complete with their official entourage.
He was the first Canadian born Governor General.
Appointed by King George VI

Kemano Visit

Bud Walker went on to the ship, HMCS Sioux,
with his oldest son, Ayce Walker
and even saved a match book cover, from that visit.

They were driven in Jeep 4X4 station wagons
similar to this one above

He was a Canadian lawyer and diplomat who served as
Governor General of Canada, Feb 28, 1952-Sept 15, 1959,
the 18th since Canadian Confederation.

Mother- Anna D. Vincent
b- July 19, 1859, d- Nov 3, 1903
Anna was from Huguenot ancestry,
and at the time of her marriage Mar 17, 1886, Erie, PA.,
her branch of the Vincent family lived in Erie, Pennsylvania

Grandfather- Hart Almerrin Massey
b- Apr 29, 1823, d- Feb 20, 1896
Became President in 1891 of Massey-Harris co. Ltd.
Grandmother- Eliza Ann Phelps
b- Apr 16, 1823, d- Oct 12, 1908

Great Grandfather- Daniel Massey
founded in 1847, in the village of Newcastle, east of Toronto,
what became the Massey-Harris Co. Ltd.
combining Massey Manufacturing Co.,
and A. Harris son & Co.
Alanson Harris established his business at Beamsville in 1857.
Merged in 1891.

The Massey Ancestry leads back to Geoffrey Massey,
who came to New Salem, MA, from Knutsford, England

Hart Parkin Vincent Massey II
b- 1918- d- 1996

Brother of Vincent Massey, Raymond Hart Massey,
was a star of stage and screen.
May 1953 he narrated the first Color Motion Picture of Kitimat.

titled "The Man With A Thousand Hands"
produced by Pat Dowling Pictures of Hollywood,
and Associated Screen news.
57 minutes in length.
Director was Jack E. R. McDougall
Cameramen, Bob Martin, and Norman Hull.
It was recorded in New York.
Strange part the sponsor's name
was not mentioned once in the film.
