Sept 5, 1925 Visit to Bienfait

1st Viscount Byng of Vimy GCB GCMG MVO
Nickname "Bungo"

September 11, 1862,  Wrotham Park, Hertsmere, Herfordshire, England
d- June 6, 1935 at his mansion called Thorpe Hall, Thorpe-le-Soken, Essex

He was a British Army officer who served as Governor General of Canada, 1921-1926,
 He was the 12th since Canadian Confederation.
Son of the Earl of Strafford.
He led the Canadian victory in April 1917 at the historic Battle of Vimy Ridge during WWI

The picture above I believe this was taken on Railway Ave. looking west
CP Railroad is seen on the right with the open wire telephone line.
Possibly taken from White's Hotel.

He was on a tour to the Mackenzie River when he stopped here.

My grandfather, for a short time, was a young doctor at one of the mines
in the Bienfait area during the 1920's (around 1924)."

Starling (Star) Omer Morris, 1917

Starling served in WWI, enlisting in Kingston ON, on Apr 8, 1916
b-Sept 21, 1893 in Athens, Leeds County, ON
Father- Joseph Morris, Irish Nationality, Farmer 
Mother- Margret Morris, nee Fortuna

After WWI he returned home to re-enter medical school at Queens University in Kingston.
After graduation he practiced medicine in Bienfait/Estevan area Coal Mines.

He later worked in hospitals in Kingston, Orillia and Cobourg, ON.

He was supposed to arrive in Estevan Aug 29, 1925
via car, and leave on a special train.
He was to drive from Regina,
short visits at Milestone, and Weyburn,
and other points on the Soo Line.
After a visit at Estevan and a short car ride through the Coalfields,
he returned to Regina on a special train on the Arcola Line.
The Estevan Great War Veteran's Association
 was the group responsible for inviting him.

Lord Byng also visited Taylorton the same year
