Poage Mine

located at Section 24, Township 1, Range 7, W2

located approximately one and one- quarter miles
SW of Roche Percee Village.    

 Operated by Herbert Ellis Poage,
This mine was the largest shipper in 1934.

Apr 16, 1952 in Sicamous, B.C. age 79.

Buried in District of Sicamous BC,
Eagle Valley & District Cemetery (Solsqua Cemetery)

Mother- Harriet Eliza Scott (1842-1930)
Father- James Riggs Poage (1834-1895)

Grandfather- George Gilliland Poage

His granddaughter went to ECI.

married to Ida Elizabeth Arndt, in 1902 at Rock Island, IL, USA
b- Apr 27, 1882, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, USA
d- Jan 1, 1967 in Estevan SK
buried in Estevan City Cemetery
She moved to Estevan in 1945

She had a brother William "Bill" Arndt
who died before her,
and a brother Frank Arndt in Minnesota.
She had a half brother and half sister as well.

Herbert and Ida moved to Canada in 1906
to the Weyburn area first.
Then they moved from there to the Outram District,
from 1909 to 1925.
They were in Torquay area in 1910.
They then moved to Estevan, and then the Roche Percee area.
They were farmers in all these places, until late 1940's.
They operated Poage's Coal Mine until mid 1930's,
in one account, and late 1930's in another.
When they sold out, Herbert moved to Sicamous BC

Herbert and Ida had 3 children.
His 2 sons are deceased.

Karl Gustafson was Herbert's Pit Boss in 1933
Karl was the nephew of Mr. Peterson from Shand mine

There is a picture of this mine in Estevan History Book,
"A Tale That is Told", page 498
