Hello to all of you old ECI alumni!
Just wanted to send you an update on the construction of the ECI Monument (picutres attached).
The construction has taken far longer than I ever envisioned. As you may or may not know, Estevan has had somewhat of an economic boom over the last few years making contractors very difficult to hire. Thanks to Ken McDonald and a few dedicated locals we were able to finally get the "Collegiate Institute" sign mounted earlier this fall. It was intended to have the entire arch work around the sign mounted but, thanks to some of our finer citizens, some of the pieces were smashed as we were waiting for the contractor to do the work so we had to improvise.
The first picture is the view from the top of the stairs. The bell you see in the picture is the bell from the old Central School. The second picture is a closer view of the sign and the remaining pictures are a view taken from each side of the monument.
We still have 4 picnic tables to mount on the floor of the monument, lighting to be installed and some general painting and clean up. With any luck this will be completed in the spring.
