HEAVY ROUTE
MICROWAVE SYSTEM
CHAPTER #6

ZYMOETZ
 RADIO  SITE

Sunset at Zymoetz
ca 1980

Zymoetz was accessed originally, by a logging bridge,
across the Copper (Zymoetz) river,
This bridge was washed out in a big flood ca 67-68, and at that time
it was by an aerial tramway across the Copper River,
at approx 24 miles up the Copper River Logging road, East of Terrace.
After the tramway, a 8 mile road led up the mountain to the site.
Constructed of Concrete block, the site had living quarters,
radio room, battery room, garage, and diesel room,
with indoor bathroom, and running water
from a cistern above the kitchen.

The site was equipped with Lenkurt 75 radios originally.
3 Cat D330 Diesels supplied the power.
1 running and 2 stand-by at any given time.
A large battery bank supplied a constant power supply.
The Steel Antenna structure was separate from the building.
Winter access was by Snowcat, and summer by a 1965 panel truck
(until the flood of 1978 washed it downstream)
There was a garage on the north side of the river crossing.
